A new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Next gen is unveiled today. Yes, Qualcomm has come up with a new next generation chipset named as the Snapdragon 835. The company comes with a tag line “get small, go big”. As the chipset is quite small, it is more powerful, efficient and using 10nm FinFET process. The company has collaborated with Samsung who will be manufacturing the Snapdragon 835.
Snapdragon 820 and the 821 chipsets will be taken over by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 soon. These processors are made of nanomaterials—molecules and atoms less than 100 nanometers (nm) in size. SnapDragon 835 chips at 10nm have smaller footprints when compared to 14nm. As the size is reduced, it gives more space to the manufacturers within the device. Therefore, the manufacturers can use that extra space to build slimmer smartphones or can fit a large battery cell.
Not only size, if we compare it with 14nm these 10nm SnapDragon 835 chips will be more power efficient and powerful. SD 835 will allow up to 30% increase in area efficiency, 27% improvement in performance or 40% lower power consumption.
This new chipset is expected to come in the market around early 2017. Qualcomm has yet to reveal more details about the SD 835. This chipset will support Quick Charge 4 (QC4) – with this, a user can charge his/her phone in 5 minutes to get 5 hours of battery life.
